Classroom Procedures

1.     Classroom before class (7:15-7:45)

When you arrive to class in the morning place school bag in your chair. Quietly go to breakfast and use the restroom. DO NOT WASTE TIME! When u return from breakfast get all materials ready for class. Anything that needs to be turned into the teacher have it out and ready for when it is called for. Everyone must sit in their assigned seat with bottoms on the seat and feet on the floor. Quietly work on the morning assignment that is on the board, overhead, and/or TV monitor.

2.     Entering the Room at the Beginning of the class period

When you enter the room, you are to report to your desk and place all of the books and materials (including anything that needs to be turned into the teacher) you will need for the class in your desk. Homework will also be taken out and placed on the desk to be checked. The remaining books and materials are to be kept in your schoolbag, which will be on the floor next to your desk. After your materials are ready, begin the "bellringer" posted on the board, overhead or TV monitor. During the "bellringer" make sure you have 2 sharpened pencils. Only 2 students at a time may be at the sharpener. All of this is done with NO TALKING!

    3.  Turning in money, notes and similar items

During the morning activity I will call for specific items to be brought up to my desk. Slowly walk to my desk and form a line. After I call for specific items I will call for “anything else” that needs to be turned in. This is the last opportunity for the day to turn in anything to me. If you do not turn it in to me at the requested time you will have to wait until the next morning. DO NOT TURN MONEY INTO A SUBSTITUTE. I am not responsible for anything turned into a substitute.

    4. Broken pencils/sharpening pencils during class

If both pencils break during class you may go the shortest route to the sharpener to sharpen your pencil. Only one student at a time may be at the sharpener. If the teacher is instructing and you are taking notes raise your pencil and the teacher will; allow you to sharpen it ASAP, sharpen it for you, or trade it for a sharpened pencil.

5. Throwing away trash

All trash will be held in the desk until exiting the room. On the way out you may quietly throw your trash away (not shoot a basket). Exceptions: some activities may create a lot of trash, raise your hand with some trash in it and the teacher may or may not let you throw it away. If you are allowed to throw the trash away you must take the shortest route to the closest student garbage can.

    6. Lining up/walking in line

You will line up in number/alphabetical order unless directed by the teacher to do it another way. When told to line up, do so quietly and quickly. When walking in line you must stay quiet and walk with your hands to your side. Walk next to the wall without touching the wall. When the line is stopped, stand next to the wall without touching the wall. Always face in the direction the line is moving. There is no waving or talking to other students regardless of grade or relationship to that student. You may speak to a teacher/principal only if you are spoken to first. Designated stopping points will be designated by the teacher when going to specific places.

7. Lunchroom

Wash and dry hands before entering the lunchroom. You may only use 1 paper towel to dry your hands. Gently push the door open with your hand, NOT YOUR FOOT! Stand next to the wall leaving enough space for teachers to go between you and the pole. Be polite and courteous to the "lunch ladies." Sit at the designated 6th grade tables in line order. Fill one table before sitting at the next table. Approx. half of the class should be on each side. Before leaving the table area you must get permission from the teacher unless it is an emergency. Only food products may be put in the bins. All nonfood products must be put in the trash cans. Trays must be stacked neatly.

      8. Class change/Recess/End of School Bells

The TEACHER tells you when to pack-up and/or leave. NOT THE BELL!

      9. Writing utensils

All assignments including homework must be completed in pencil unless directed differently by the teacher. Two sharpened pencils must be in the desk when class starts.

     10. Leaders

Two students will be selected weekly to do whatever needs to be done. Examples: run errands, clean lunch tables, feed class pet, erase boards and etc.

      11. All 6th grade students are expected to set good examples for every student in the grades below them.

     12. The teacher reserves the right to modify these procedures.
